Woody Harrelson Steps Out Of Comfort Zone In Rampart

bad copAs any fan of his will tell you, Woody Harrelson is the go-to guy if you need a baddie. And audiences seem to love whatever he does, even if the movie is not so great. Now, it seems, Harrelson may finally get the critical recognition he deserves, with Rampart, in which he perfects the art of being bad.

Set in 1999 Los Angeles, and also starring Cynthia Nixon, Sigourney Weaver, Robin Wright, and Ice Cube, the actor plays corrupt cop Dave Brown fighting for his own and his unconventional family’s survival.

The character is at times compellingly dark and complex, and the film is set in Rampart police station at a time when the Los Angeles Police Department was under intense scrutiny amidst allegations of corruption and misconduct among its officers.

The picture, which wowed audiences at London’s Film Festival, is the second Harrelson has done with Israeli director Oren Moverman. The first was the 2009 Oscar-nominated The Messenger.

Harrelson, who charmed in Cheers before entering the A-list with Natural Born Killers,  has previously said the two roles he would never play, since he lacked the confidence to do them, were those of cop and solider. Having persuaded him to play a solider in The Messenger, Moverman is taking Harrelson out of his comfort zone for the second time with this latest movie.

Scripted by Moverman and LA Confidential wordsmith James Ellroy, critics are already saying Rampart represents one of 50-year-old Harrelson’s finest performances yet.

Catch it in theaters starting January 27, 2012.

Getting To Know… Analeigh Tipton

Movie StarAnaleigh Tipton has been named “a face to watch” by the New York Times. But who is she?

Analeigh first appeared on the TV screen as a contestant in America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 11 (2008). The fan favorite made it to the top three before she was voted off and encouraged to pursue an acting career. Though Analeigh hadn’t acted prior to entering the competition, she was enrolled in Marymount College as a Film major. She frequently landed in the top three at panel and was said by judge Tyra Banks to have delivered the best Cover Girl commercial challenge in the history of the show.

Analeigh’s career began at the age of two and a half when she began figure skating competitively. She retired from the sport at age 16, but her training without a doubt helped her succeed as both a model and now as an actress. After ANTM, Analeigh had a cameo role in The Big Bang Theory and then a minor role in The Green Hornet (2011) alongside Seth Rogan. She then landed a major role in the blockbuster hit Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011) where she plays a teenage babysitter obsessed with the kids’ father (Steve Carell). Just as in ANTM, Analeigh is mesmerizing behind a moving camera. Her big eyes, big lips, and cascading hair give her an aura of innocence and grace, and from the media response she held her own against her fellow costars which included such big names as the above mentioned Carell, Julianne Moore, and Ryan Gosling.

See Analeigh next in the zombie film Warm Bodies which premieres in 2012.

Brad Pitt Plans To “Stop Acting At 50″

Brad Pitt Movie StarFans may have thought (or hoped) he would go on starring in movies forever, but it could all be over for Brad Pitt’s movie career in just a few years.

The screen legend has revealed in a frank interview with Australia’s 60 Minutes that he already has his exit plan worked out. Not only that, but he and wife Angelina Jolie could even be contemplating increasing their brood of kids!

Asked how much longer he wanted to carry on behind the cameras, the 47-year-old was very precise in his responsethree years. Post 50, Pitt plans on being exclusively behind the cameras. He added that he has been seriously enjoying the producing side of movies, developing stories and helping to put pictures together. He says he particularly likes “getting stories to the plate that might otherwise have had a tougher time.”

However, he may not be quite ready to put paid to the idea of expanding the already large Jolie-Pitt family. He has said that he “just doesn’t know” whether he and his equally famous wife are done with six children. Apparently, even the inevitable resulting chaos and lack of sleep are fine by him right now.

Born in Oklahoma in 1963 and raised in Springfield, Missouri, Pitt has been starring in movies since he was 25, from Troy and Thelma and Louise to Fight Club, Babel and Se7en.

Before achieving stardom, he supported himself by driving strippers around in limos, moving refrigerators and dressing as a giant chicken while an employee of ‘El Pollo Loco’!

Getting To Know… Amanda Seyfried

blonde with makeupAmanda Seyfried is the quintessential beautiful, blonde actress who was trained in classical opera and started modeling at age 11. Her first arrival on the big screen was in Tina Fey’s Mean Girls (2004), in which she played the role of ditzy Karen Smith—a high schooler whose breasts can predict the weather. She lost the larger role of Regina George to Rachel McAdams, but won the lead in Mama Mia! (2008) over this very same costar.

Mama Mia! propelled Seyfried further into the spotlight as she played alongside such well-established actors as Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, and Meryl Streep. She was also able to showcase her fine vocal skills in this much beloved movie musical. While filming Mama Mia!, she continued her role as polygamist Bill Henrickson’s somber daughter in the HBO drama Big Love, playing a character much different than either Mean Girls’ Karen or Mama Mia!’s Sophie.

After thus establishing herself as a serious actor, she joined the “Nicholas Sparks family,” as Savannah Curtis in the movie Dear John (2010) based on Spark’s novel of the same name. Other Nicholas Sparks female leads include Mean Girls’ Rachel McAdams in The Notebook (2004), Mandy Moore in A Walk to Remember (2002), and Robin Wright in Message in a Bottle (1999). Seyfried’s character is no less strong-willed than the otherSparks women, and maybe just even a little more so.

Seyfried’s last box office hit was the fantasy thriller Red Riding Hood (2011), where she played the wide-eyed heroine Valerie who must choose between her village and the lure of the wolf. Having now established herself in both serious and humorous films, and in both movies and television, we are sure to see more of this talented actress on the big screen.
