Five Classic Christmas Movies
Which of these iconic Christmas films have you seen?
1. Miracle on 34th Street (1947, 1994) Kris Kringle reluctantly becomes Macys’ Santa Clause after their other employee is fired for intoxication. Kris is such a convincing Santa Clause that people begin to wonder whether he could in fact be the real thing.
2. A Christmas Carol (1938, 1951, 1971, 2001, 2009) Ebenezer Scrooge is a miser who hates Christmas and refuses to participate in the holiday. He is visited by three spirits: the Ghost Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present, and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, and all three teach him the true meaning of the holiday.
3. It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) Perhaps the most iconic Christmas film, depressed George Bailey (James Stewart) is visited by an angel trying to get his wings (Henry Travers). The angel shows him how important his life has been, and what his town of Bedford Falls would be like if he were never born.
4. A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) Charlie Brown is frustrated by the over-commercialization of Christmas. He buys a sad little Christmas tree and helps his friends remember the importance of the holiday by putting on a Nativity play.
5. How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966, 2002) The Grinch lives on Mt. Crumpit and swoops down in a Santa costume in an attempt to steal Christmas from innocent and merry Whoville. However, Whoville continues on with their joyous spirits, much to the dismay of the grumpy loner.

Eight Must-See Cult Classics
Made popular by word of mouth, these films have obtained a cult following for their satirization of modern, commercial life and quests for empty advancement.
1. Fight Club (1999) The unnamed protagonist befriends Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) and the two anti-corporate men form an underground fight club and organization called “Project Mayhem.”
2. Donnie Darko (2001) Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal) is hounded by a 6-foot tall bunny rabbit who tells him when the world will end.
3. Stepford Wives (1975) Johanna (Katharine Ross) reluctantly moves with her husband and children from New York City to a suburb called Stepford, where something appears to be in the water.
4. Welcome to the Dollhouse (1995) Dawn Wiener (Heather Matarazzo) gets harassed by her classmates, seduced by a deviant, and criticized by her seemingly perfect family.
5. Office Space (1999) Peter (Ron Livingston) hates the monotony of his job at Initech, and after being hypnotized he, and his friends, attempt to disrupt their environment.
6. Blue Velvet (1986) Jeffrey (Kyle McLachlan) finds an ear in a field and subsequently becomes entrenched in a murder mystery with sadistic villains and a damsel in distress.
7. Aguirre, The Wrath of God (1972) Lope de Aguirre (Klaus Kinski) attempts to lead a group of Spanish conquistadors through the Amazonian jungle in an attempt to find the fabled El Dorado.
8. This is Spinal Tap (1984) This mockumentary follows the fictional British band Spinal Tap—made up of core band members David (Michael McKeen), Nigel (Christopher Guest) and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer)—through their dwindling American tour.

Movies With New Years Scenes
In anticipation of the new movie New Year’s Eve coming to theaters on December 9th, here are three films with memorable New Years Eve scenes that make viewers feel warm and fuzzy.
1. Alfie (2004) Perpetual player and bachelor Alfie (Jude Law) meets Nikki (Sienna Miller) while on duty as a chauffeur in New York City during the holidays. Alfie feels he has finally met someone he can see himself spending the rest of his life with, and this feeling culminates at a swanky and hip New Year’s Eve party where the two enjoy being young, beautiful and restless together.
2. When Harry Met Sally (1989) Harry (Billy Crystal) and Sally (Meg Ryan) have a love-hate friendship over a matter of years following their college graduation. They see each other through breakups, heartache and dissatisfaction, and ultimately develop feelings for each other. When a one night stand changes everything, they try to go on without each other, until New Year’s Eve where Sally leaves a party early and Harry sprints through town in order to tell her how he feels about her before the ball drops.
3. Sex and the City (2008) Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mr. Big (Chris Noth) continue their tumultuous relationship in this blockbuster movie. When Carrie and Mr. Big seem to end things for good, and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) separates from her husband after his infidelity, both women find themselves alone on New Year’s Eve. Despite both of their initial desires to spend the holiday alone in their respective residences, Carrie runs to Miranda and the two count down the minutes together.

Back-To-School Movies
Worried about entering a new school? These films might give you a tip or two.
1. Mean Girls (2004)
This now all-star cast has Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) entering a new school after she and her parents return from years spent inAfrica. Cady finds herself struggling to align her love of math with the unexpected magnetism of the popular clique “The Plastics.”
2. Never Been Kissed (1999)
Josie Geller (Drew Barrymore) goes undercover as a reporter, and in doing so, must face her fears and flashbacks to her own tortured high school past.
3. The Karate Kid (2010)
In this remake, Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) reluctantly moves toChinawith his mother and trains under to the tutelage of kung fu master Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) in order to avoid being tormented by a group of bullies.
4. Girls Just Want to Have Fun (1985)
Janey Glenn (Sarah Jessica Parker) finds her way through her new school thanks to the help of classmate Lynne Stone (Helen Hunt). The two set their sights on winning a competition to score a part on “Dance TV.”
5. Legally Blonde (2001)
When seemingly-ditsy Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) gets dumped by her boyfriend, she follows him toHarvardLawSchooland shocks everyone by enrolling herself and joining him.
6. Saved! (2004)
Mary (Jena Malone) enters her perfect senior year until she becomes pregnant by her boyfriend and must face judgment from her Christian school friends and acquaintances.
7. Thirteen (2003)
Louise Freeland (Evan Rachel Wood) longs to reinvent herself at school. She becomes involved in a downward spiral of sex and drugs, following the guidance of cool girl Evie Zamora (Nikki Reed).
8. Anne of Green Gables (1985)
Anne Shirley (Megan Follows) is new toPrince Edward Islandafter being adopted by an elderly brother and sister. She soars to the top of her class, but not without being called “carrots” and enduring the wrath of the jealous popular girl.
9. Save the Last Dance (2001)
When her mother dies on her way to her Julliard audition, Sara (Julia Stiles) moves to the south side ofChicagoto live with her father and attend a largely black, underprivileged school.
10. Footloose (1984)
Ren McCormack moves fromChicagoto a small Midwestern town with his mother. He’s considered a city boy outcast until he wins a tractor race and convinces the parents of the town to reinstate rock music and dancing.
