First “Great Gatsby” Pictures Unveiled!
We’ve already had some unofficial, tantalizing glimpses into the new production of The Great Gatsby. Now the first official still images of the movie have been issued and can be seen online.
Two photographs have been unveiled of the classic remake, directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby, Carey Mulligan as the shallow but alluring Daisy Buchanan, and Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway. Also starring Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Gemma Ward and Callan McAuliffe, the high anticipated movie won’t be in theaters until Christmas Daynext year.
The movie also features India’s best-known actor, Amitabh Bachchan, who has reportedly “refused remuneration” for his role as shady businessman Meyer Wolfsheim in the new film, saying he had agreed to join the cast, and make his Hollywood debut, as a favor and “gesture” to Luhrmann.
Based upon the ever popular classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and set in Long Island in the Jazz Age, the story focuses on Midwesterner and would-be writer Nick, who is lured into the lavish world of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby. It doesn’t take long for Nick to see through the cracks of Gatsby’s nouveau riche existence, where lunacy, obsession, and tragedy are never far away.
The movie, with a reported $126m budget, is being shot in Sydney, Australia. The Great Gatsby has previously been filmed for the big screen three times, once as a silent movie 85 years ago and once in 1949. However, the best-known version starred RobertRedford as Gatsby and Mia Farrow as Daisy. Directed by Jack Clayton, it was made in 1974.

All-Time Top Christmas Movies
It’ll soon be that time of year again, when it’s freezing outside, and many of us love nothing better than snuggling up in front of a classic Christmas moviepreferably one we’ve already seen a hundred times before! And it doesn’t matter how corny or schmaltzy they would seem at any other time of year. We still love ‘em! Here are a few of our favorites, but which are yours?
Released more than 20 years ago, Home Alone provides festive comedy gold, with Macaulay Culkin outwitting the world’s most incompetent burglars. The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, released a decade later, also provided another instant classic. Who could forget Jim Carey’s performance in the leading role?
Joyeux Noel is an Oscar-nominated drama focusing on life in Scottish, French and German trenches during the First World War. Poignant and heartfelt, this movie is too often overlooked.
Will Ferrell stars alongside Zooey Deschanel and James Caan in Elf as an overgrown elf whose realization that he was born human sparks an identity crisis. This warm movie is as touching as it is heartfelt.
Love Actually has a cast list reading like a ‘who’s who’ of British cinema, Richard Curtis’s quintessentially English rom-com has captured hearts worldwide with its interlinked love stories, set in a snowy Christmastime London.
The Santa Clause is a family comedy and one of the strangest seasonal movies of the 1990s, starring Tim Allen as Scott Calvin, a regular guy who accidentally kills Santa Claus on Christmas Eve.
It’s a Wonderful Life is another iconic movie which must feature high in everyone’s all-time seasonal favorites list. James Stewart is about to jump to his death when a guardian angel shows him how much he has to live for. This feel-good film is a solid gold holiday classic.
Finally, The Muppet Christmas Carol is an adaptation of one of our greatest stories, performed almost entirely by a collection of felt puppets! With Michael Caine providing a rare human presence as Scrooge, this flick is an endlessly endearing film rightly held in great affection.
There are many more holiday movies, and it’s almost time to start enjoying them all over again!

Timeless Movie Fashions
Check out some of the movies which inspire us with their timeless, effortless chic.
Return to Me (2000)
Grace Briggs (Minnie Driver) is a reserved young woman who’s self-conscious about her open heart surgery and the scar it left down the middle of her chest. Costume designer Liz Bothwell had Grace’s clothes represent her youthful innocence while at the same time giving her an air of adulthood. Grace’s flowered skirts and shirts are not at all unlike what we still see in this year’s fashion catalogs, making Return to Me a timeless piece of fashion history.

The Stepford Wives (1975)
Not only is this an amazing movie in its own right, but it’s eerie just how much the two feminist protagonists, Joanna (Katharine Ross) and Bobbie (Paula Prentiss), look so 2011 in their 1970s attire. Not everyone can pull off such long-standing outfits that transcend time, but costume designers Peggy Farrell and George Newman definitely helped these actresses do just that.

My Girl 2 (1994)
Vada Sultenfuss (Anna Chlumsky) is another character from the 1970s, but this time in a film created in 1994. Thick braids are now all the rage, floral and paisley collared shirts are frequent staple items, and crocheted everything has taken over the pages of Victoria Secret. Costume designer Shelley Komarov made Vada—the headstrong 13-year-old from Pennsylvania—a very smart shopper.

Taxi Driver (1976)
Jodie Foster captured the hearts of America as the tough but tender teenage prostitute, Iris. Her perfect curls; high-wasted, coral shorty-shorts and platform shoes remain as iconic as the actress herself. Not to mention that perfect bag, sunhat, and floral top. It’s no surprise that costume designer Ruth Morley went on to outfit characters such movies as Annie Hall, Kramer vs. Kramer, Tootsie, Ghost, and The Prince of Tides.

Knight and Day (2010)
The creators of this movie made a smart move when they had June Havens (Cameron Diaz) try on her yellow bridesmaid’s dress right before she attempts to evade Roy Miller (Tom Cruise) by running through the city. The dress matched with her cowboy boots give June both a feminine and tough persona, and Diaz’s striking beauty adds the final touch. No doubt the timelessness of a simple dress and boots will carry this film into timeless chic, thanks to costume designer Arianne Phillips.
