Back in Black? Men In Black Come Back for a Third Installment
Just like protagonists Agent K and Agent J, the Men in Black franchise possesses precision timing. Exactly 15 years after the first installment and 10 years after its sequel, Men in Black II. The third in the zany trilogy looked to be the latest film to follow in the dubious trail of Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over by explicitly referencing 3D technology in the title, but it now appears that the title has been changed from Men in Black III-D to Men in Black 3 (with MIB3 IN 3D still the official poster.) Still, it’s going to take more than 3D effects to get audiences to overlook the disappointing direction the series took in its second installment, which garnered a “Razzie” award for Worst Supporting Actress for Lara Flynn Boyle as the evil villain Serleena.
Once again, hope lies in the comic chemistry between leads Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, with new additions Josh Brolin and Emma Thompson, and appearances by Alice Eve, Jemaine Clement, and Nicole Scherzinger. Other returning talent includes executive producer Steven Spielberg, director Barry Sonnenfield, and composer Danny Elfman, who was nominated for the Best Comedy Score Academy Award for the first Men in Black.
In the latest installment of this oddball science fiction comedy series, Agent J (Will Smith) has to travel through time to save the planet from the latest and greatest alien menace. In addition to Nicole Scherzinger’s appearance as one of the antagonists, there is a rumor that Lady Gaga and other celebrities will make cameo appearances.

“3D Titanic” Trailer Released
Prepare to weep once more at the ill-fated romance of star-crossed lovers Jack and Rose! James Cameron, legendary director of the equally legendary 1998 multi-Oscar-winning romance Titanic, is working on a 3D version of the box office shattering epic which was the second highest grossing flick of all time behind that other Cameron special, Avatar.
Get ready to see the iceberg looming up out of the screen, relive that classic iconic pose of the central couple on the prow of the ship, and watch Leo’s breath freeze in the air so that you can almost touch it.
Titanic in 3D will be in theaters next spring, to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the real ship’s sinking. Actress Gloria Stuart, who played Rose as an old woman, celebrated her own 100th anniversary just last year, weeks before her death on 26 September 2010. She was the oldest person to be nominated for a competitive Oscar, at the age of 87, for that role.
Of course, it’s not possible to see the 3D features unless you are actually in the movie theater, but, given Cameron’s prowess with the technology, it’s all set to look pretty special. And you can still check out the trailer online anyway.
Even if you dismiss the remake as a cynical, money-making ploy, or find the movie’s description of itself as “the world’s most beloved and acclaimed film” a little too much, you may find yourself secretly looking forward to seeing that awesome collision sequence in three dimensions. Our hearts will indeed go on …

The Three Musketeers
One for all and all for one! The Three Musketeers is a jolly romp, combining comedy, action and romance with hefty doses of skulduggery and heaving bosoms. And it’s coming to a theater near you on October 21.
Based on the Alexander Dumas novel of the same name, first published in serial form in a French newspaper in 1844, the story is set in the seventeenth century. It recounts the tale of young D’Artagnan, and follows his adventures after he leaves home to travel to Paris and seek his fortune in the court of King Louis and his bride, Queen Anne.
In fact, the hero isn’t one of the trio of the title: those are his friends, the inseparably close-knit band of Athos, Porthos and Aramis. The three enjoy a legendary reputation, but are now down on their luck. They must unite to stop a beautiful double agent and her dastardly boss from seizing the throne ofFrance, and plunging all ofEuropeinto war.
Brit Paul WS Anderson directs this welcome return of the much-loved classic tale to our screens for the first time in nearly 20 years, and the stars are Logan Lerman (D’Artagnan), Matthew Macfadyen (Atos), Ray Stevenson (Porthos), and Luke Evans, who plays Aramis. The script was written by Alex Litvak and Andrew Davies. There’s also a female interest in the form of M’Lady, played by Milla Jovovich.
This movie is in 3D, which is not used that much, but could be more so in any sequel, which a cliff-hanger ending neatly sets up. And, for industry watchers, this flick is bound to be a litmus test to see how Summitfares in the soon-to-be-post-Twilight era.

James Cameron Ups The Pace Of The Avatar Sequels
Legendary movie maker James Cameron is considering shooting the sequels to smash hit Avatar at 48 and 60 frames per second (fps), to create the best possible quality of 3D film.
This speed seems to be becoming a Hollywood trend, with Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit now being shot at 48 frames a second, already twice the more standard rate of 25fps, which most modern movies use. (Jean-Luc Godard famously declared that ‘cinema is truth at 24 frames per second.’)
For both Avatar 2 and 3, which he is now preparing to shoot, he has been weighing up the pros and cons of 48 and 60 fps, favoring the latter and saying that he believes 60 frames would present ‘a more truthful image.’
The director already discussed this issue at a convention back in March, in which he likened 3D to a window on reality, with the higher frame rate removing the glass completely.
Cameron has even gone as far as to urge production and exhibition industries to favor higher frame rates.
For the new Avatar movies, he says, “If the exhibitors are happy to take up the idea of a dual standard, then I’ll probably been keen to shoot at 60fps. If not, they I will be considering the pros and cons of 48 and 60 very carefully.”
At the same time, Lightstorm Entertainment and digital cinema projector manufacturer Christie have just signed a five-year deal with the goal of furthering 3D digital cinema and speedier frame rates.
